About AWCA

Our Mission

The American Women's Club of Amsterdam (AWCA) is a volunteer run organization whose mission is to provide social and educational activities for American women residing in the Netherlands and women with close ties to the United States.

Our Key Objectives

  • Embrace the Dutch experience while celebrating American traditions
  • Foster a welcoming, engaging and supportive community for all members to cultivate lifelong friendships and connections
  • Provide social, cultural, educational, sports, and activities for all members
  • Contribute to our host community through charitable works and to the broader world through philanthropic programs
  • Support Member businesses & services and professional networking opportunities 

The Club Today

The AWCA, formed in 1927, has a long and storied history of community and today is a vibrant club of members in Amsterdam, Haarlem, 't Gooi, and beyond. AWCA offers a wide range of activities and connections through private member online platforms. Members participate in community service, supporting local and global initiatives and form a supportive network dedicated to celebrating American traditions and embracing the Dutch experience.


What We Do

  • Art on the Move: Museum visits, often with professional tour guides. Explore new exhibitions and old favorites like the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. 
  • Cultural activities: Art, History and Cultual Walking, Cycling and Boat tours and excursions to discover new places near and far within The Netherlands
  • Book Clubs: Various clubs meet monthly, in the afternoon or evening, in Amsterdam and Haarlem. Join for engaging discussions on a wide range of books.
  • Social activities: Luncheons, Mix & Mingle Evenings, Pokeno, Ladies Night Out, Cheap & Cheerful and Dining Diva dinners, Movie Nights, Wine Tastings, Jazz Nights, Coffee Mornings, Craft Groups, Weekly Walks in Amsterdam and Haarlem
  • Family Fun: Moms and Tots gatherings in Amsterdam, Haarlem, and 't Gooi for parents and children under 10. Weekly meet-ups for play, snacks, and conversation.
  • Holiday Celebrations - Halloween, Winter Holiday events, 

We welcome new ideas and member-initiated events to ensure there is always something for everyone.

Monthly Meetings

From September to June, we hold a monthly general meeting open to all members. These meetings are held in Amsterdam, alternate between daytime or evening and typically host featured speakers with time to socialize with other members. 

Daytime Meetings - 10:00 am

Evening Meetings - 7:00 pm

Newcomers

Events such as coffee & newcomer meet-ups help new members make connections, gather valuable information, integrate into the club and to life in The Netherlands. 

Member Support

Our Support Committee assists members during times of need, offering help with meals, emotional support, and more. For assistance, contact support@awca.nl.

Community Service

Philanthropy is a key pillar of AWCA. We support local charities such as De Kloof and the Blijf Groep in Amsterdam and Stem in de Stad in Haarlem. As part of FAWCO, we also contribute to global initiatives like the FAWCO Target Program, focusing on women's and girls' education. 

Family Events

We celebrate American holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and Independence Day with unique and fun events.  Join us in upholding traditions and creating new memories together.
