Lodging

  • Hotel Intercontinental - Huge rooms, great location, beautiful spa and breakfasts, great service

  • Memmo Alfama Hotel Lisboa - great location, really lovely, not outrageously expensive. Breakfast was great, and there's a big deck overlooking the water that's perfect for soaking up the sun (even in January!)

  • Hotel Lisboa Plaza - 4 star hotel, small but well equipped, lovely staff. Recommended by Myra Viviane Engelen.

  • Dolce CampoReal Lisboa - Wonderful (golf) resort between Lisbon and Torres Vedras. Suites, duplex rooms etc. Great spa, restaurant is fantastic, 3 pools, golf green, spa and again lovely staff. Recommended by Myra Viviane Engelen.

Restaurants

  • Clube do Peixe - Delicious fresh seafood in family style restaurant. We went 3 times in one week because fish was so fresh and service was excellent.

  • Restaurante Faz Figura - recommended by Myra Viviane Engelen.

  • O Prego - sandwich with thin steaks beef or pork. Recommended by Myra Viviane Engelen.

  • Casa Brasileira - A magnificent tiny bar that caters to half the city. Amazing to see so many orders made in no time. Breakfast, lunch, in between bites anything sweet and/or savory!! Order a “Galaõ” (=latte) with pastel de nata or round 5 : “branquinho e pastel bacalhao”....white wine and cod croquette. Recommended by Myra Viviane Engelen.

  • Koppu Ramen

  • Pasteis de Belem

  • Time Out Market

  • Hamburgueria do Bairro

  • Gelato at Santini or Sorbettino

Activities

  • Praca do Comercio - waterside public plaza

  • Ribeira das Naus

  • Day trip to Sintra to Castelo de Mauros & Palacio de Pena are amazing. Wear tennis shoes for Castelo de Mauros because it is rustic walking/hiking.

  • Pena Palace in Sintra (do a day trip that includes Sintra, Cabo de Roca, Cascais and Estoril)
Pro tip: Sintra is most crowded on Mondays because lots of Lisbon sights are closed that day so everyone goes to Sintra; no matter what day you go, get there early to avoid lines at Pena Palace.

  • Pantheon - Combine history with the cool building and beautiful fados.

  • Oceanario - A magnificent aquarium built for the EXPO, close to a big mall and with lots of terraces. Great place to watch a soccer game and have beer (Um Imperial is draft beer). Recommended by Myra Viviane Engelen and several other AWCAers.

  • Museo Sporting - Visit a spectacular soccer stadium and museum about Lisbon's biggest sports club. Recommended by Myra Viviane Engelen.

  • Mafra National Palace and library (almost no one goes there, but it was fascinating side trip we combined with Obidos)

  • Maritime Museum

  • Walking tour/Jewish history tour

  • LX Factory
