Zermatt, Switzerland

Hands down, it's the best!

• Great for kids/family-friendly
• Great village/après ski, and incredibly beautiful.
• Zermatt is expensive like all of Switzerland seems to be, but it's so worth it.
• It is a carless town, so it's quiet and beautiful.
• The Matterhorn is visible everywhere and is stunning. Better than the Matterhorn at Disneyland!
• The food in Zermatt is incredible and the people are very nice.
• We've visited other ski resorts and keep returning to Zermatt, including in the summer! Ask about Zermatt in the summer next time!

• La Vue - so beautiful
• Focus - beautiful hotel with views of the Matterhorn
• The Daniela - less expensive but still beautifully appointed
• Nevada Apartments - 10 apartments of various sizes for rent. Beautiful and fully decked out and reasonable because it had just opened 2 years ago when we went.

Where to Eat

• Chez Vrony - best food on the mountain and in Zermatt
• The Whymper-Stubbe - classic fondue
• Sonnmatten - innovative Swiss
• Finderlerhof - such a satisfying ski meal
• Stafelalp - another incredible restaurant. There is so much good food in Zermatt, and the atmosphere in these places is beyond gezellig.

Non-ski Options

• Glacier Paradise is reachable without skiing, but it has an underground ice palace, snow tubing, and views.
• In town, there are many restaurants and bars that are cozy and fun. There is shopping.
• There's a great ice skating rink, and you can rent skates and hockey sticks and play around, even while other people are skating.
• There is a beautiful hotel called the Backstage, we haven't stayed but passed by. It has a movie theatre and alternates nights between a current movie and a retro movie.
• Because lodging and Airbnbs are so nice, we like staying in playing family games and watching movies.

Lech, Austria

• Great for kids/family-friendly; good ski school
• Great village/après ski
• Beautiful area and good quality accommodation, food, and lifts
• Ski where the Dutch Royals go!
